Jim's story

Jim Gleason, longtime president of TRIO and leader who developed the original Post-transplant Cancer website, was a heart transplant recipient and dedicated patient advocate. He was driven by his personal life challenges with cancer in the many years after his life-saving heart transplant in October of 1994. Many considered Jim a friend, who was never too ill to help a patient or donor family. He was a tireless advocate – from developing much-needed education to patients, to lobbying for Medicare coverage for recipients on Capital Hill. Jim passed away in 2022 from incurable pancreatic cancer. He will be remembered by many as a trailblazing leader in the transplant field.
