TRIO Central Texas Activity Report September 2023

Since its inception in 2014, TRIO Central Texas Chapter has worked diligently to further the TRIO National goals of support, advocacy, education, while promoting an awareness for both the local, and the national transplant communities. Our two major objectives include promoting organ donation & operating a hospitality house for Central Texas transplant patients and their caregivers. We are active in our donor awareness campaign, presenting frequently at service organizations, churches, wellness events, and other venues. We contribute through podcasts, media events, public relation appearances and have memberships in local civic organizations. We also host a local support group meeting twice a month.

Amy’s House was named in memory of Amy Firth, a multiple organ and tissue donor at Baylor Scott & White and the daughter of two of our Chapter officers, John and Margaret Henderson. The eight-bedroom, 6000- square-foot house is a first-class, state-of the-art facility on land donated by the City near Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple, Texas. Through Amy’s House, TRIO Central Texas has housed numerous patients and their families this year, and we look forward to continuing as we create a sustainable and supportive home-away-from-home for these patients and families.

Our occupancy has tripled this year and we are receiving good financial support from our local community. For a virtual tour of our beautiful home, please see the attached: Amy's House - YouTube
