My name is Gabrielle Archangelo I am 20 years old and I am a liver transplant recipient. A few months after I was born in 1990 I was diagnosed with a fatal liver disease known as Biliary Atresia in which the bile ducts of the liver do not function properly ultimately leading to liver failure. As a result, I was put on the transplant waiting list to receive a new liver.
After months of waiting and praying, I was finally able to receive a second chance at life on April 4, 1991 at thirteen months old.
Thanks to my organ donor, Aaron, nineteen years later I am a happy healthy recipient trying to promote the importance of organ donation and transplantation to individuals who might not be aware of the significance of saying “yes” to organ donation. As a result of becoming a recipient I have met many amazing people and made lifelong friends over the years that have gone through similar transplant experiences. I hope to help others who are presently going through transplantation as well as those who are unfamiliar with the manner in hopes to spread the word about the gift of life.
