MaryAnn Raccosta
Caregiver mother and author

Caregiver mother and author, MaryAnn Raccosta shares her challenges raising three children, two diagnosed with a extremely rare medical conditions - biliary atresia (a liver disease) and Trifunctional Protein Deficiency (a metabolic disorder) - that repeatedly threatens their lives. With the help of loving, dedicated, expert support from the team at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, her story of survival continues. More recently, she has published a book, The Survivor, the Hero, the Angel: A Mother’s Story - One Decade, that takes the reader deep into her soul and heart throughout that journey. MaryAnn will talk about that life experience that continues to this day, along with sharing how the book came about and the adventure of getting one’s story published, inspiration that some in our audience might find useful in creating their own book some day in the future.

MaryAnn Raccosta is a dedicated spouse and mother who became self-educated in the complex world of liver disease and the many complications that come with long term caring for not one, but two pediatric patients, her sons, while keeping her family life intact. In her book, we discover she is also a gifted writer with a powerful story that will both inspire caregivers and patients facing their own long-term health challenges.
