Diane James, newly appointed manager of the Gift of Life’s Kidney Paired Exchange program, shares details about something new in the OPO world: taking on responsibilities for paired exchanges of living donor kidneys. As this life saving process has grown across the country in recent years, initially at individual transplant centers, UNOS and their member OPO’s have recently begun taking a leadership role to oversee the success of this process and raising the numbers of living donations. Gift of Life is one of the first to take on this new responsibility and with Diane’s appointment, has begun that implementation here in our Delaware Valley region. Come learn what great promise this holds out for the approximately 75,000 patients waiting today for a kidney transplant, not only for your own information, but equally important in gaining an understanding as you act as a resource to others who know of your transplant connection and seek you out for such information.
