Pgm #56: Paying It Forward: A Transplant Story

Clint Burns will share his inspiring nineteen years of post-liver transplant life with a “paying back” career described in detail below. Clint Burns has over 10 years of experience as a critical care nurse specializing in trauma and transplant. In his current role of In House Coordinator for Organ and Tissue Donation at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Living Legacy Foundation of Maryland, Clint facilitates the organ and tissue donation processes. His primary responsibilities include education of staff, policy implementation and review, support during active cases, and after action reviews for donor cases. Clint is a member of the JHH Organ Donor Council, and supports the Pastoral Care chaplain residents. In his role, he clinically manages donors and provides support to potential donor families, as well as develops the Organ and Tissue Donor Memorial Wall and annual ceremony. Clint works closely with Living Legacy to support community outreach. He speaks at churches, schools and hospitals. He has mentored transplant recipients at Johns Hopkins for 14 years and continues to do so.

Clint is a liver transplant recipient 19 years out. He was transplanted at Johns Hopkins in June 1994. He is currently in school working toward his Master’s degree in Nursing.
