Gary serves currently as the Executive Sports Manager for the World Transplant Games Federation and has since 2015 with leadership roles on several key committees.
His past experience was as Executive Director of the American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP), leadership roles with the September 11th Families Association - 9/11 Tribute Center, the American Lung Association of New York, Vice-President with the National Kidney Foundation, and previously Director of the Gift of Life Initiative and was the founder of the US Transplant Games.
Prior to that, Gary served as Regional Director for the NKF serving the northeastern U.S. and Executive Director for the Kidney Foundation of Maryland.
His related professional activities include: World Transplant Games Federation General Secretary, 2004-2015; Treasurer, 1997-2004; Executive Committee member 1997-2015; Sport Committee Chair 1999-2015; Governance Committee Chair 2006-2015; Site Review Team 1996-2013; Games Liaison 2011-2015; Councillor 1995-2015. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the National Kidney Foundation of Florida.
Gary is married to Colleen Horan, herself a former Director of the U.S. Transplant Games. They have a son, Owen, currently in middle school, and live in Lithia, Florida, a suburb of Tampa. Gary’s older son Andrew is at present a graduate student in writing at the University of South Carolina.
Gary received his B.A. from the Johns Hopkins University.
