Introductory message text: Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in both women and men. Early diagnosis and treatment is essential to long term survival. The five-year survival rate is over 53 percent if the cancer is confined to the lungs, but the disease is only detected at that early stage 15 percent of the time. Once the cancer has spread, the survival rate drops below 4 percent. (see much more about lung cancer in the link below under resources - a source for our research)
