TRIO Liaisons

The national TRIO  Board of Directors has established liaison roles for ongoing contact and communication wth major transplant organizations.  Contact them [Visit Liaisons] if you can help or need their services in communicating with those organizations.

Guidelines for both Recipient/Donor Communications as well as a new Sensitive Terminology for Organ Donation guide are available under Communications. Please review these guidelines for your use in your presentations and discussions.

The national TRIO  Board of Directors is composed of TRIO members who take the  cause to a new level of dedication and active participation, providing leadership at the national level (...while maintaining active roles in their local TRIO Chapters).  If you have the skills and interest, use the "Contact" link on bottom of this page to ask for more information.

There are so many excellent educational and inspiring books both about transplant and patient stories, what to read (of give as gifts)?  In our Communications section there are now almost ninety transplant related book titles, including a constantly growing list of newly released excellent reads, many of which are reviewed by a transplant patient as a guide to your own reading interests. • TRIO Planning nation wide "grass roots" Primary Care Physicians campaign to address PCP  study findings - Primary care physicians rarely discuss organ donation with their patients despite the majority agreeing that the topic is both important and within their scope of practice - together we can make a difference in this.
  
  
• (updated 5/8) TRIO Leadership Summit <-- click here to see photos from the event -  On April 30/May 1st TRIO hosted a special Leadership Summit  conference for TRIO Chapter Presidents and other leaders or leader candidates to be held in Philadelphia.   With 25 attendees (which included speakers) from 7 TRIO Chapters, the event scored an overall evaluation of 9+ (where 10 is the high score) with the majority of funding being channeled into scholarships  as reimbursements for travel/lodging expenses for local chater attendees.   Everyone felt this should be an annual event, so stay tuned for future opportunities for you to attend if there is a next time.

• (updated 7/6) TRIO focus on youth welcomes new national Board member Valen  Cover  and Youth Coordinator, Holly Werlein. • (new) TRIO's Board approved a new "Student Essay Contest" with significant cash prizes to be launched in the coming months.  Stay tuned as this committee releases details on how high school students can enter and help promote organ and tissue donation with their essays.

• AP 8/13/09: Tony Huesman, the world's longest surviving single heart transplant recipient (nearly 31 years) died at age 51 of cancer. Shortly after receiving his new heart, Huesman wrote these words: "It doesn't really matter how we die, when we die, or why we die."   "What really matters though, is how we live in the hearts and souls of those we touch along the way."
