TRIO Chapter Activity Report

NE Florida Chapter - January 2010

TRIO NEFL had an active  4 th quarter. For Thanksgiving we delivered and paid for
22 fruit baskets to be given to dialysis centers in the area. Each basket was accompanied with information about our TRIO chapter.
We had our holiday party at River City Brewing a restaurant down town on the water. The attendance was a little lower probably because of the economy. A great time was had by all those attending. One of our members donated jewelry she made which was given away in a drawing.
On Christmas day we held our annual Christmas day dinner for those stuck in town having just been transplanted or unable to go home. We fed 35 families . The chairpersons suggested that we not hold it on Christmas day as many of the families in town go home for the holidays if they are able. We will probably hold it earlier next year.
Our January meeting showed the TRIO video program how to live to be a hundred.
Our February meeting will have Grace Chen from Dallas Texas speaking on transplant tourism. This will be for information only so our members will know all options available to them. We plan to film the talk and for TRIO's video program.
Our March meeting our Organ Procurement Organization  LifeQuest will give us an update on the success they had for year 2009.
We are planning our annual Donate Life day which will be held at the Jacksonville Landing on April 3. Several great bands have agreed to play and we are anxious to use the new on line registry of Donate Florida coalition to sign up donors.
We have plans to have a low country boil dinner at the back yard of one of our members in the spring.
We had training classes put on by Friends for Life (of which TRIONEFL is a member) on transplant education for health fair workers and donor awareness speakers..
