TRIO Greater Cleveland celebrated our 20th year anniversary as a Chartered Chapter of TRIO with an Annual Meeting on Thursday, June 25 at Cleveland Clinic Crown Centre in Independence. Our speaker was Rabbi Rachel Rembrandt who spoke about her experience as an organ donor and as a religious teacher regarding organ and tissue donation.  The event was well attended by about 40 people. We took the opportunity to honor Transplant Social Workers with the theme "Socially Speaking..Putting it all Together."  There were 10 Social Workers in attendence who enjoyed the program and each left with a small token of TRIO's appreciation of them.
 
TRIO Greater Cleveland sponsored the Cleveland Clinic heart transplant dinner this year in July this year on the 23rd.  We had the opportunity to meet with about 30 post transplant patients and their families as well as a handful of those waiting for transplant at the Cleveland Clinic.  It was a nice way to get TRIO's name out to new people and to meet new people.
 
Our sixth annual Night at the Races was held on Friday, August 7 and by all preliminary accounts was a success!  The final tallies are not yet in.  But the event was well attend by our biggest crowd yet- 145 people!  We once again had Lucky Chance raffles with about 55 donated items and a 50/50 Side-Board.  The local Transplant Centers, Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals Case Medical Center as well as our local OPO, LifeBanc were supporters.  We also received support from a Roche Pharmaceuticals Grant and from American Legion Post 678.  We thank all of our sponsors, those who donated and attended for such a successful event!  We look forward to next years event!
 
Our next event will be a movie night on Thursday, October 15 at LifeBanc's conference room where we will show "Seven Pounds."
 
Next will be our Annual Donor Sabbath.
