TRIO Chapter Activity Report

Ventura Chapter - September 2007

TRIO Ventura County West Valley Chapter President Report

TRIO National Board of Directors Meeting

October 13, 2007 at Cleveland, Ohio

Since our last report to the TRIO National Board on August 4, 2007, our local chapter has continued its various donor awareness and support activities in Southern California.

We currently have an active membership of approximately 98 paid members.

As in the past, we continue to work closely with the major transplant centers in Los Angeles which include UCLA, Cedars Sinai Medical Center, USC and Saint Vincent’s Medial Center. We continue to work with Valerie Bobry of Pharma Care to promote TRIO activities at the various hospitals that Pharma Care covers throughout California. Last month through the efforts of Valerie, I had the opportunity to address the Cedars Sinai Medical Center Multi Organ Transplant Group and talk about TRIO activities both in Southern California and around the United States.  In August, 2007, for the third year, we attended the Screen Actors Guild Health Day Event and spoke to the members about organ and tissue donations and TRIO activities. This annual event is hosted by Glenda Rosenbloom, our local TRIO Chapter Secretary and Board Member with the able assistance of Jackie Colleran. On August 18, 2007, TRIO was invited to the First Annual Donate Life Community Meeting held at UCLA for Donate Life Ambassador throughout Southern California.  Presentations were given in “breakout sessions” by local TRIO members Jackie Colleran, Joe Darga and myself.

On October 21, 2007, Pamela Endo, a very talented watercolorist, a kidney pancreas transplant recipient and member of our TRIO Ventura County West Valley Chapter’s Board of Directors, will present an exhibition of her works. The event will be held at The Gardens of the World, a gift from the Hogan Family (Founders of Pleasant Holidays) to the City of Thousand Oaks. Pamela is donating a portion of the sales from this event to TRIO.  She has been very active as a committee member on the TRIO National Scholarship Committee.

Our local TRIO Chapter remains active in the Nationwide Donate Life Hollywood consortium along with Dr. Susan Morgan of our National TRIO Board of Directors. Both Susan Morgan and I have been appointed to the Donate Life Hollywood Advisory Committee.  Two of our local TRIO VCWV Chapter members have been appointed to OPTN/UNOS Committees; Jackie colleran is a member of the National Organ Availability Committee and I have been appointed as the  Region 5 Representative to the Pancreas Committee.

On December 15, 2007, TRIO VCWV Chapter and the California DMV Employees will host an 8 hour decorating session for the 2008 Rose Parade Donate Life Float. Our TRIO VCWV Chapter members will, for the fifth year, help decorate the float. Our local chapter continues to be a Supporting Member of the Donate Life Float. This year the float will have 23 organ recipients as float riders.

Our chapter will hold its Annual Elections for new board members on November 16, 2007. Even though I am not allowed to be an elected Member of the Board for one year due to term restrictions, I have been asked to continue on as the President for an additional year in a non-voting capacity.

As an active and committed TRIO chapter, we are looking forward to a continued increase in our membership and influence within the transplant community into 2008.
