TRIO Chapter Activity Report

NE Florida Chapter - October 2007

Some jobs no matter how hard you try to let go of keep coming back to you. I am again TRIO NEFL president due to work commitments and health problems of Suzie Holton.

 

TRIO NEFL has been building bounds with other transplant organizations in NEFL area. We are members of the Jacksonville Transplant Alliance which is made up of OPO ,Tissue bank, Nielsen Organ Transplant Foundation, Mayo Heart lung transplant group, Mayo Liver support group ,Mayo kidney support group and St Andrews Lighthouse  which provides housing for out of town patients (mostly transplants).

The first event will be a pot luck hoe down dance at a local church. We plan to have a strong base for health fairs from this group and hopefully as members of Mayo support groups become further out from transplant to join our TRIO group.

 

We are also hosting the Donor Sabbath event in November at one of our members church. We partner this event with OPO and Nielsen under our partnership called friends for life. The event last year had a full church and we certainly expect the same this year. TRIO will provide music ,OPO food and Nielsen the candles and paying for the room. Speakers will include donor family, recipient, recipient family and transplant surgeon.

 

Plans are underway for our TRIO Holiday party at River City Brewing on the River in Downtown. We expect about 100 people to attend. We are also planning our Christmas day dinner for those who are from out of town their families on Christmas day as well as recipients in need. We had to move from hotel to a Church as space became a problem. We are working on transporting families to the event. This event usually gets excellent coverage on TV and local paper.

 

For Thanksgiving we provide gift baskets of fruit to all the dialysis centers in the area. This is a way to go

et TRIO 's name before some potential transplant candidates.

 

Had great attendance for meeting on Fung Shei.and how to avoid clutter. Expecting a good turn out as the head of Shands Jax hospital will speak on transplantation and issues with hospitals.
