  • TRIO Board annual meeting was held in Philadelphia, Saturday, Nov 19th at the Gift of Life Donor Program offices - officers for 2012 (assumed office at this meeting) were elected as follows:
    • Secretary: Susan Pincus
    • Treasurer: James Mateiko
    • Vice-president: Elizabeth Rubin
    • President: Jim Gleason
  • Also held in Philadelphia Nov 18/19th were planning sessions for the TRIO PCP (i.e., Primary Care Physician) donor awareness program and the on-going strategic planning maybe better known as the revitalization or intervention development committee work (under leadership of Will Oler, MAL).  Details from these sessions will be coming out in Lifelines and the month member E-newsletters shortly, so stay tuned.
    All in all it was a very intense and productive weekend.

  • James Mateiko Elected to TRIO National board - 5/10/11: the TRIO board approved Long Island donor family TRIO member-at-large,  James Mateiko, as its 12th and newest member.  Click on this title to see his bio.
  • TRIO "virtual chapter" for members-at-large (MAL's) calling for support needs ideas with survey e-mailed to registered MAL's 5/1/2011 (click on title if you didn't get the invitation and are interested)
  • Merle Zuel Elected to TRIO National Board - 4/15/11: the TRIO board approved Kansas City TRIO Chapter president, Merle Zuel, as its newest member. Click on this title to see his bio.
  • Lou Reardon Elected to TRIO National board - 3/30/11: the TRIO board approved Member-at-large (and former Long Island TRIO chapter member) from South Carolina, Lou Reardon, as its newest board member. Click on this title to see his bio.  Lou is working with former board member, John Harwood, in developing a support structure for our growing members at large base using web based technology (i.e, a concept referred to as a "virtual chapter")

  • Transplant Nurses Day 2011
  • Letters of Thanks to share with a transplant nurse - to celebrate your local transplant nurse as part of Transplant Nurses Day (was April 20th, but can be done any day), send them a link (http://trioweb.org/Nurses/BookEventStory.shtml) to this collection of thank you letters, along with your own letter, of course.
  • New TRIO pinThe new TRIO pins have been mailed out!  If you are registered as a dues paid 2010 or 2011 member, your chapter has a pin in your name.  Members-at-large should have received their pins in the mail in September.  Wear your TRIO pin proudly and invite others to join your chapter and our cause to save lives through organ donation. Questions can be sent to Sylvia Leach at the TRIO office at info@trioweb.org.  Pins are also available for sale for $5/ea at that same address.

  • (updated 7/27/11) TRIO Scholarships<--  click here to see the list of available scholarships.  Applications for the 2011 TRIO Scholarship closed on June 30th.  Awards will be announced this Fall.

  •  TRIO focus on youth: new Youth Circle leadership announced - see co-leaders Bill Coon and  Mary Wu's stories (and books) then read our growing list of youth transplant stories, including that of our newest member, Julie Bonn.  Also, check out Youth Circle member, Mary Wu's book in the making linked on her story page.  Mary Wu is also a featured writer on the NKF web site in an article on Medicine Compliance 

    Participate in the new Q&A youth forum.  Also, this team is looking into hosting a series of employment seeking workshops by audio conferencing to help young transplant recipients who are looking for employment, hoping to provide a resource for sharing both practices that have succeeded as well as those to avoid.  If you are interested, send a note to info@trioweb.org and we will put you on the mailing list for when it is launched.  And don't miss the many scholarship opportunities on our Scholarships web page.

    • TRIO Chapter Council elects new chairman - Chapter Presidents elected their new Chapter Council Chairman, JT Rhodes, in recent  voting.  Both JT and Alex Boyer, outgoing Chapter Council Chair, were honored at the Annual Board meeting for their long years of dedication and TRIO service with inscribed crystal pieces as seen in this one for Alex.

      In separate Board action, Alex Boyer was voted onto the TRIO National Board where he had been serving in the board position reserved for the Chapter Council Chairman.

    • Initial funding approved!! TRIO 's nationwide "grass roots" Primary Care Physicians (PCP) campaign to address PCP  patient education on organ donation has received its first grant so the program is now moving to Phase 1 implementation planning - stay tuned to see how YOU can help! - Background: Studies show that primary care physicians rarely discuss organ donation with their patients despite the majority agreeing that the topic is both important and within their scope of practice - together we can make a difference in this.

    • (New 12/18/10) TRIO Leadership Summit <-- click here to see photos from the event)Fri/Sat May 13/14 2011 Leadership Summit to be held at the area's OPO, WRTC, in Washington, DC - stay tuned for further details;
      2010 Leadership Summit: On April 30/May 1st TRIO hosted a special Leadership Summit  conference for TRIO Chapter Presidents and other leaders or leader candidates to be held in Philadelphia.   With 25 attendees and speakers from 7 TRIO Chapters, the event scored an overall evaluation of 9+ (where 10 is the high score) with the majority of funding being channeled into scholarships  as reimbursements for travel/lodging expenses for local chater attendees.   Everyone felt this should be an annual event, so see developing plans for Spring 2011 above....

    • (new) TRIO's Board approved a new "Student Essay Contest" with significant cash prizes to be launched in the coming months.  Stay tuned as this committee releases details on how high school students can enter and help promote organ and tissue donation with their essays.
